Mechanical Environment Differentiate New Bone Formation through Unidirectional Porous Hydroxyapatite Implanted in a Tibial Bone Defect of a Rabbit

چکیده
INTRODUCTION: Porous hydroxyapatite (HAp) has been used as a bone substitute instead of autogenous bone grafts because of no donor site morbidity, fewer complications, as well as osteoconductivity. Previously, we reported a novel unidirectional porous hydroxyapatite (UDPHAp) with a porosity of 75% and a microstructure consisting of cross-sectional oval pores (diameter, 100–300 μm) that penetrate through the material [1]. UDPHAp exhibits good osteoconductivity and capillary formation implanted in the femoral intramedullary cavity in a rabbit [2, 3]. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of mechanical loading condition on long-term bone remodeling in UDPHAp implanted into a tibial bone defect of a rabbit.

Comparative Study of Bone Repair Using Porous Hydroxyapatite/ β-Tricalcium Phosphate and Xenograft Scaffold in Rabbits with Tibia Defect
Background: Bone tissue engineering requires materials that are biocompatible, mechanically suited for bone function, integrated with the host skeleton, and support osteoinduction of the implanted cells for new bone formation. The aim of this study was to compare the osteogenic potential of xenograft with hydroxyapatite/β- tricalcium phosphate (HA/β-TCP) scaffold. Methods: New Zealand rabbits (...

متن کاملBone Regeneration and Remodeling within a Unidirectional Porous Hydroxyapatite Bone Substitute at a Cortical Bone Defect Site: Histological Analysis at One and Two Years after Implantation
Unidirectional porous hydroxyapatite (UDPHAp) is an artificial bone substitute with a unique microstructure consisting of 100-300-µm oval pores that present the material unidirectionally. UDPHAp has a compression strength of 14 MPa and a porosity of 75%, which promotes cell migration and capillary formation within the material. Despite these advantageous properties, bone remodeling and bone for...
متن کاملEvaluation of the effects of autologous adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells in combination with polyacrylamide hydrogel and nanohydroxyapatite scaffolds on healing in rabbit critical-sized radial bone defect model
Objective: In this study, the bone regeneration ability of polyacrylamide hydrogel and nanohydroxyapatite scaffolds (PAAH/NHA) and stem cells derived from adipose tissue (ADSCs) in the healing of critical sized bone defects in rabbit radius were assessed. Animals and procedures: 12 New Zealand white male rabbits were divided into 3 groups. The rabbits were anesthetized and 15 mm bone def...
متن کاملThe Process of Porous Tantalum Implants Osseous Integration a Review
Porous tantalum is a biomaterial that was recently introduced in orthopaedics in order to overcome problems of the past related to implant loosening. Its use has led to very good results, especially in difficult cases where severe bone defect is present, as it is found to have osteoconductive and possibly, osteoinductive properties. So, it is of great interest to shed light to the mechanisms th...
